It's that Time...

For my Music & Book update....
This is my favorite time =)

Music:

The Temper Trap - Conditions

This is a good one! No sure even what kind of category to put this one in. Maybe...Indie Soft Rock??? The songs are chill and soothing but have some great beats, if that makes sense. I believe these guys are from Australia but don't hurt me if I am wrong. I have only listen to this album so I need to check it out and see if they have others. My favorite songs are Fader & Rest.

Metric - Fantasies

Metric Rocks! And so does this album. There album Grow Up and Blow Away is really good but I am kind of thinking I like this one better. I love her voice. They are going to be coming to Salt Lake with Lilith Fair but I can't get myself to pay that kind of money to go see them! Help I'm Alive is a good one that is played on the radio but Twilight Galaxy & Gimme Sympathy are my favs.

Wakey!Wakey! - Almost everything I wish I'd said the last time I saw you...

OMG! I am luvin this one! Singer/Song Writer type music with a lot of good piano/keyboards & violin. I think no matter what kind of music you listen to you will like these guys. Plus their lyrics are the kind you can relate to...especially if you are single! My favorite songs on this album are Almost Everything, 1876 - The Brooklyn Theatre Fire, and Got It All Wrong.

Books:

The Wednesday Letters & Recvoering Charles by Jason F. Wright

The Wednesday Letters is definitely my favorite out of the two. It is really cute story about this old couple who dies on the same day and their kids find all of these letters that the husband would write to his wife every Wednesday since they were married. (Heart melting...) I think it could've ended a little better, it didn't feel quite complete, but other than that it is a really good book.
Recoving Charles is about this guys whose father is living down in New Orleans when Hurrican Katrina hits and disappears. He goes down there in search of his Father. It was a good book but not a page turner. I really liked that it gave details about New Orleans after Katrina hit. I had no idea along with a lot of you out there about was actually happening down there. Crazy stuff.

City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Another OMG! I love this book! It is kind of mix between Twilight & Harry Potter. Everytime I try to explain to it someone they just think I am weird cause it is about Demons & Shadowhunters along with Vampires & Werewolves. It sounds weird but it is really really good. And there is a love story in the mix which makes it even better. Nothing sappy like Twilight though. It is a Trilogy, which the other 2 are out and are on their way to me! I will let you know on the next update how those are.

Until next time my friends!

1st half of June!

This past couple weeks have been so busy but also so good! A lot of fun stuff has been going on, except for the exception of one bad day...(we will get to that later). I am not sure if I have ever mentioned I got a quite large calling in my singles ward a few months ago. I am the Activities Chair...and singles wards have lots of activites! I am constantly doing something for it. It is fun and keeps me busy, even though it can be stressful at times! So anyways her is a long posting of whats been going on these past couple weeks (besides my calling):

On the 2-5 of June, I went and stayed in St. George with my friend Heather & Kate. Oh man that weather was so nice. It was in the 90's the whole time. I loved it. One day we drove out to Zions and went hiking. I have never been to Zions before. It is beautiful out there. We decided to go for Angel's Landing. I didn't quite realize what I was getting myself into =). The first part was pretty hard. We did all these switchbacks up the mountains and I swear it was never ending! The top was pretty cool, even though a little scary at times. For those who don't know about Angel's Landing they have put poles all up there with chain railings to hold on to because it is so steep at some parts and has drop off on both sides of you. I believe about 3 or so people die a year because they fall somehow. Some lady slipped, fell, and died about 3 weeks before we went. Scary!! As long as you stay on the trail you are good though. And saying you actually did it is awesome. I hope I get to do it again someday. Below are some pictures.

Behind me is the part where you hold on to the chains. There is only one way so sometimes passing those coming down can be tricky...

We all wore black shorts with pink tops...totally not on purpose. The condo we stayed in was a huge 2 bedroom, 2 bath, so we didn't really get ready by each other and we walked out all ready wearing the same stuff. It was funny. We got called the pink team by random people. Go Pink Team!

The view from up top:

This was the Owl we saw on the way up there. I did not know Owl's were awake during the day...did you?

St. George was full of hours laying by the pool. So nice. This was more of a relaxation trip for us (we all very much needed one) and we sure got some of that in!

We decided to take a trip to Vegas
. We have some friends whose kids live down there and one of their daughters husband is in the bishopric of a single ward. So to make a long story short our new friend Trevor came with us and boy was he a life saver that night. First we went and ate a P.F. Changs...yummy! Than just walked around. We meet us some rappers who gave us copies of their demo cd and called us their Utah Snow Bunnies, we watched Heather biff it on the strip (kind of funny), and best of all we ran into car problems... We took Kate's VW Beetle down, which is known for having problems, but she got them all fixed before we left. So on the way down to Vegas the car overheated which I don't blame it cause it was like 1oo degrees and carrying 4 adults. So when we tried to leave it was totally out of coolent. We had to get ourselves to a Walmart ASAP! Luckily with Trevors help we were able to get it fixed and get home by 4:30 a.m. =). Pretty sure I am going to need a long break from that city of Vegas. Once it hit about 1 a.m. it was bloody hot and we had creepy guys following us Walmart...I wanted to get out of that city so bad..!
We made it home with only have to pull over once to cool down her engine, but all in all it was a great trip!!

Now I guess it is on to my bad day. Last Monday started out as a good day. Work was busy cause it was my first day back from vacation and went by really fast. I went straight out to my nephew Pake's baseball game and loved watching those 7 yr olds try to play. Then I was going to go to FHE but my parents went to dinner so I decided to go with them. At the last minute my Dad chose Sizzler. So we ate and it was good. We then went to our cars and I started approaching mine and I noticed all this glass on the ground and then my mom yells my name because she notice all this glass on my back seat... Yep someone busted my window and broke into my car. (fyi...this isn't a picture of my car. Just one off the internet). I had this bag in the backseat that had my book, planners, and tuperware from lunch. I guess they thought it was a purse and took it and ran cause anything that was worth anything to them was still there. The bag they stole was one I got in Puerto Rico last year and can't be replaced =(. If anyone knows me they know my planners are my life so these past few weeks I hope I haven't missed anything! Me and my mom waited 2 1/2 hours for the Ogden police to show up and they never did. The dispatcher finally told us to go home (after telling us that when we decided to get into the car because it was raining we contaminated the crime scene so nothing could really be done now). Ogden cops are on my list with Vegas right now! I am glad nothing confidential or very valuable was stolen. But it did suck to have to pay $100 to get a window replaced that wasn't even my fault. Stupid robbers.
Lesson learned: Don't leave stuff in your car!! Hide it!

Now on to some more good stuff! Last Wednesday, we went to the ReAL vs. LA Galaxy. Totally made up for a everything crappy! It was an awesome game and we won. Below is the ball Heather caught only because it hit my head. I think technically it should be mine. Haha!

I love watching soccer!

The night we got another special treat because David Cook was there and preformed after the game. I am a huge American Idol fan but have never seen any of them live...oh I just lied, I saw Kelly Clarkson a long time ago. So my second one seeing live! And I really like David...he is one of my top 3 (the other 2 being Chris Daughtry & Lee Dewyze). I don't know any of his songs but it was fun to watch.
I have never been on the field either which was cool...

That would be David Cook...if you can tell! I hate my small camera now but I can't lug my big one everywhere!

I also had a busy but weekend. On Friday I saw the movie Killers which was so funny. You gotta go see it.And Ashton Kutcher is looking really good these days...I think he is definitely in the prime of his life =)Saturday was the Ogden's Arts Festival. This stupid weather kind of put a damper on it but they were able to fit it all in the Union Station. I got this awesome shirt. Don't you love it?? I do!

I don't think I have ever done a blog post this long before! Go Mel! This is for my lack of Journal writing! I would like to share a couple last things that I have to look forward to. First, I found out one of my favorite bands is coming to Salt Lake on September 23rd!!! Ya. I love Phoenix!! The singer may be an ugly, dirty Frenchman but he has the most amazing voice!Last but not least. I think I am going to be running the Cherry Days 5k this year. Anyone who knows me knows I hate to run. I can't believe I am putting myself in this position...! I may end up walking half of it but I will give it my best shot!
